Penile Curvature Correction

Rockwell is the #1 medical center for the surgical correction of penile curvature or Peyronie's Disease in Aventura, FL.

What is Peyronie's Disease?

Peyronie’s Disease is a condition wherein scar tissues are formed in the penis, leading to a slight penile curvature towards the scar tissues. The scar tissues also make the penis less flexible. The penile curvature can be painful and/or affect sexual penetration. In extreme cases, penile curvature can also make sexual penetration impossible. In some cases, penile curvature can be treated with medications, but severe cases necessitate surgical intervention. Rockwell Male provides treatments and procedures for penile curvature correction in Miami.

Plication Technique

Plication is the simplest surgical technique for Peyronie’s Disease — it involves placing stitches on the opposite side of the scars, i.e., the longer side. This shortens the penis on the other side of the curve and pulls it straight. This is a simple procedure that counters the curvature by pulling the penis to the middle. However, this surgical technique is only suitable if the penile curvature is less than 60 degrees.

Plication is the safest surgical technique to straighten a curved penis. It’s performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, and you can later recover comfortably at home. The risk of harsh side effects, such as nerve damage and impotence, is negligible. Most patients can resume their daily activities a day or two after the procedure. However, the penis will be slightly shortened by this procedure.

Grafting Technique

Grafting, also known as excision and grafting, is suitable for patients with a penile curvature of more than 60 degrees. During this surgery for penile curvature correction in Miami, the scar tissue is cut out and replaced by a tissue graft from another part of the body. The tissue graft can also be taken from a tissue bank. The surgeon will determine the ideal option for you. This is a more invasive procedure than plication.

After this procedure, the penis will be up to one inch longer than the stretched penile length. The surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia or an epidural. Furthermore, grafting restores the penile length rather than shortening it, making the short side equal to the long side. This procedure involves an overnight hospital stay and a longer recovery period. Furthermore, it also involves the risk of nerve damage and impotence.

Implant Technique

A penile implant is the last resort for patients with severe Peyronie’s Disease — those who can’t get an erection even with assistance from medications or vacuum pumps. During this procedure, inflatable balloon-like cylinders are placed within the penis and controlled via a pump in the scrotum. With this procedure for penile curvature correction in Miami, the implant is often enough to straighten the penis, but some patients also need additional plication and grafting. This technique restores the original penile length.

The penile implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and it usually involves an overnight hospital stay. After the surgery, the recovery period may last for one to several weeks — it varies from one patient to the next. This procedure restores erectile function, but you’ll have to use the implant to achieve erections. The implant technique involves a risk of implant failure, especially if the patient is sexually active, necessitating implant replacement.
